What Are You Afraid Of?

Fear vs. Phobia.

Fear: (noun) “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.”

Phobia: (noun) “an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something.”

On this week’s episode of Podcrashed we talk phobias.

Do you have an irrational fear? Do clowns make you wet yourself? Does thunder and lightening bring you to tears? Does the mere thought of the ocean make you breakout in a cold sweat?

You are not alone. No matter what your phobia may be, there are enough people who suffer from it to have a clinical name for it.

Here are some of the interesting ones we found:

  • Xanthophobia – fear of the color yellow
  • Turophobia- fear of cheese
  • Somniphobia- fear of falling asleep
  • Hylophobia- fear of trees
  • Omphalophobia- fear of the navel

And the list goes on.

We also get real with the phobias that plague us, from Trypophobia (fear of pores and clustered holes) to acrophobia (fear of heights) to Coulrophobia (fear of clowns)
